Avocet Pool is a 1½ acre pond on the east bank of the complex.
It was purposely designed as a flat-bottomed venue, with islands and plateaux, to offer something of a challenge to members who favour a float-fishing approach.
Swims are along the eastern side of the pond only, with adjacent parking. The pond holds large numbers of crucian carp, tench and rudd along with 330 carp to 1lb introduced in October 2012. The rudd have bred profusely and it is a challenge to ‘get through them’ to catch the more cautious tench and crucians. Chub have been introduced in the hope that they predate on the smaller rudd. The pond is usually weedy and can make fishing difficult. Catches can be made by float fishing just above the weed or fishing a feeder with a buoyant hookbait. Alternatively raking a swim close in can sometimes work well.
