Year Books

For those who have an interest in the history of Hull & District AA, here is some information related to items we hold in our archive. Below are several images of what were called “Year Books” or “Membership Books”, showing the various changes in their design over the years. The earliest copy we have is dated 1950, and if anyone has any earlier ones we would very much appreciate the opportunity to scan them for our collection. Until relatively recently the membership book held the member’s details and was the actual proof of membership. However, in 2003 that changed and the book became a larger and more comprehensive “Information Book” with members also being issued with a plastic card as proof of membership. We have been unable to locate any membership books between the years 1983 and 1994, although we have some paper copies of membership permits. My recollection is that we started using a paper membership permit instead of books, possibly as a cost saving exercise during this period – then later reverted to the actual books again.
