Motorway Pond
Motorway Pond is a mature 18-acre former brick-pit fishery offering varied fishing for carp, tench and a wide range of coarse species.
Motorway Pond is one of H&DAA’s larger and more interesting stillwaters. Originally several separate brick pits, the waters were joined together following construction of the nearby M62 to create the fishery members know today.
Covering approximately 18 acres, the pond has plenty of character, with bays, islands, peninsulas and areas of open water. Depths range from approximately 2ft to 17ft.
Despite its proximity to the motorway and surrounding development, Motorway Pond is rich in wildlife, flora and fauna and has developed into a mature and established fishery.

The venue is particularly known for its carp and tench, with specimen potential for tench, roach and rudd.
A wide range of methods can be successful, including float fishing, ledgering, feeder fishing, pole fishing, method feeder and float ledgering.
With around 18 acres to explore and numerous bays, islands, margins and changes in depth, locating the fish can be an important part of a successful session.
Motorway Pond is generally better suited to experienced anglers and specimen hunters than those looking for an easy beginner or junior venue.

Access & Parking
Nearest postcode: HU15 2PJ
Leave the M62 at the Newport/Gilberdyke turn-off and proceed through Newport village. The fishery can be approached from Thimblehall Lane or Canalside West.
Parking
There are two main car parks on the Thimblehall Lane side, the main one being the first encountered. A smaller parking area is situated nearer the motorway. Both are protected by padlocked gates.
There is a further car park on Canalside West, adjacent to the local community play area, providing access to swims on that side of the pond.
Members may park adjacent to swims on the motorway side where appropriate, but vehicles must be positioned sensibly and must not prevent other vehicles from passing.
Accessibility & Facilities
Motorway Pond is partly suitable for anglers with limited mobility. Some accessible pegs are available, with woodchip peg surfaces and cinder paths in relevant areas.
Accessibility varies around this large venue, so members with limited mobility should consider which area they intend to fish before visiting.
Safety & Respect for the Venue
Motorway Pond reaches approximately 17ft deep in places. Members should take appropriate care around the water’s edge, particularly when exploring unfamiliar areas.
The pond supports a wide variety of wildlife, flora and fauna. Please respect the environment, take all litter home and leave the venue as you would wish to find it.
Parts of the fishery are close to residential properties. Members fishing near the housing estate should be particularly considerate of local residents and keep noise and disturbance to a minimum.

All members fishing Motorway Pond must comply with the current Hull & District Anglers’ Association Rules and any additional notices displayed at the venue.
Hull & District Anglers’ Association
Membership of HDAA is open to anyone who agrees to abide by our common-sense Fishery Rules. All membership permits run from 1st Jan to 31st December annually. Membership allows angling on most of the Association’s venues from 5.00am to 10.00pm (except Carlton on Trent where the start time is 7.00am).
